Department of History, founded within the body of Faculty of Science and Letters, is continuing its active education mission with its large and qualified staff who carried their researches and education process in scope of sub-departments of Ancient History, Medieval History, Turkish History, Modern History and History of Republic of Turkey. 

The institutional goal of the department is to lead the discipline of history and historiography both in our country and in the world by raising individuals who will produce competent scientific studies. It is one of the most important objectives of the department to develop a polyphonic and high quality history understanding and knowledge that is open to innovations, sensitive to the requirements of the age, together with the students in the program. In addition, the department works ceaselessly to play a role in the scientific development of the country through competent researches that will be carried out by academics and to meet the requirements of the academy by raising the intellectual quality of the field.
